The University of Adelaide held its annual open day on Sunday 20th August to give the public a chance to learn, firsthand, what is available at the university in terms of education, research, careers. NewSpec’s Martin Cole helped showcase research from the School of Chemical Engineering to prospective students with a Hitachi Tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).  Prof. Losic’s group at the School of Chem. Eng. uses a Hitachi SU1510 SEM for their research projects into nanomaterials, sensors and graphene based technology.  For the open day showcase we brought a portable SEM in order to show visitors the engineered microstructure of research materials that promise to one day bring a new era of advanced technologies to the world.
