Program Overview
These programs have been developed by an experienced early childhood educator. Each topic is specifically tailored to captivate and meaningfully engage children in preschool settings through the inclusion of stories, opportunities for independent explorations promoting autonomous discovery learning, following individual curiosities, hypothesising and group investigations using state of the art technologies.
For more details on the programs, and the links to the Early Years Learning Framework, please follow this link.
Designed by an experienced teaching professional, these topics are tailored to fit seamlessly into the Australian Curriculum in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Learners will actively participate in scientific explorations of the selected topic content to gain hands on learning experiences and authentic understandings about how STEM topics can be applied to the world around us in amazing, awe inspiring ways that can change the world. A fantastic immersive experience illustrating where STEM is used in people’s daily lives.
Each session provides opportunities for learners to pose and respond to questions about their experiences and predict outcomes for their investigations. Informal and formal measurements, records and representations are utilised for learners to make and compare their observations. Time to discuss and share ideas and communicate discoveries with one another is a common and critical element of all workshop formats.
All groups are left with an engineering project to continue with that allows individuals to illustrates their learning as a result of the experience, allowing the continued of development of STEM related skills and knowledge.

Each session provides opportunities for learners to:
- Develop their understanding of microscopic structures
- Discuss and explain how scientific knowledge helps us to solve problems and inform decisions
- Observe and classify various 2D and 3D samples
- Follow procedures to develop investigable questions and ensure safe operation and use of equipment
- Collect, organise and interpret data, identifying where improvements to their research could improve the data
- Describe and analyse relationships in data using appropriate representations and units of measurement
- Communicate ideas, methods and findings, identifying patterns and measuring these against predictions

Secondary science teachers are encouraged to complete a professional learning session to allow your own teaching topics to be supported by application of the Optical and Scanning Electron Microscope. Themed sample kits are available for hire and use with students.
Alternatively, our own professional microscopists are available to operate the technology to support your delivery of curriculum content.
The lab can be accessed and utilised by senior year’s students to support applications of learning, for example in personal learning projects, in the STEM subject areas; Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Physics, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics. Applications of this world class technology is limited only by our own creativity. Students can become accredited in the operation of the TM4000 SEM.
Designed to skill teaching professionals in the operation, use and applications of the various technologies available for use with student groups. Attending and becoming accredited in a professional learning session is a pre-requisite for all teachers wishing to host and independently operate the lab technology at your site.
A wide variety of kits are available for hire to those accredited in our professional learning program to use the scopes independently. The samples in each kit have been selected to support a range of teaching topics, however we can tailor a sample kit to suit your specific needs, making the possibilities endless.
